Fluoridation of water supply science fraud?

To the Editor:

The four councilmen of Schuylkill Haven who voted for the reintroduction of the poison fluoride to their water supply apparently hadn’t heard what Dr. Robert Carton, a scientist who spent 20 years studying the issue for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, said in later years about the practice: “Fluoridation is the greatest case of scientific fraud of this century, if not of all time.” A synonym for fraud is “misrepresentation” (sometimes known as “bait and switch”) and that’s exactly what those who promoted the fluoridation of water supplies in the ’40s and ’50s engaged in.

First, the citizens were told that fluoridated water would greatly reduce the incidence of dental cavities. That was a flat-out lie! Although anecdotal incidents can be cited to “prove” almost any claim, the fact is that even today Europe, where only 2 percent of the water is fluoridated, doesn’t have any higher incidence of tooth decay than we in the United States do, though we are 66 percent fluoridated! That sounds like, in addition to a huge misrepresentation, a big waste of our citizens’ tax money.

Second is the fraud of our citizens having to pay huge amounts of money chiefly to the aluminum, fertilizer and munitions industries, the sources of the hydrofluorosilicic acid used in fluoridation, when, on average, only about a half of 1 percent of water supplies are used for drinking water. The other 99 1/2 percent finds its way into the environment.

ALCOA, Reynolds and other major aluminum companies used to have to spend big bucks to store and dispose of this hazardous waste properly. But in a deal between the corporations and the government, a slick, Wall Street spin doctor … the Father of PR, was hired to transform what they knew to be a toxic waste product that was the main ingredient in insecticides and rat poison into a heaven-sent, beneficial provider of bright, beaming smiles that was absolutely safe and good for the children! And instead of having to pay high costs to dispose of it they were making huge profits selling it to municipalities. What a scam! And, of course, the government approved the whole scheme with a wink and a nod.

Third, in addition to the fact that 99 1/2 percent of the hydrofluorosilicic acid that goes down our collective drains into our environment, the small amount that does make it into our mouths is filtered by our bodies until it finally reaches a major organ or the brain where it resides forever! That’s why when proponents of this swindle always trot out the figure of one part fluoride per million parts water as being such a miniscule amount that couldn’t harm anyone, they are ignoring the fact that fluoride accumulates in the body and never leaves. So over the years the fluoride just keeps piling up until we get some kind of unexplainable illness.

Fluoride ingestion is self-poisoning … just read the back of any toothpaste tube … and it has been linked to any number of illnesses for which there continues to be confusion about what exactly is causing them: Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, cancer, dental fluorosis, arthritis, diabetes, neurological and thyroid disorders and the list goes on.

So when one of the four proponents says he was drinking fluoride water for so many years and it hasn’t affected him, which I doubt, he is one of the lucky ones, much like a lifetime smoker who doesn’t die from it. I’m sure he’s lost numerous friends and family in Haven and Cressona to illnesses whose onsets were uncertain or unexplainable. And the reason they’re unexplainable is because our federal government has been in charge of a massive coverup of the devastating effects of fluoride poisoning. And the reason for the coverup is that our government is getting a benefit from the fluoridation program that hasn’t been mentioned yet.

Over the years there have been several sworn congressional testimonies by people who defected from membership in the Communist and Nazi parties after WWII who had personal knowledge of the addition of fluoride to the water supplies of their respective prison and concentration camps. The reason for this was that it made the prisoners more docile and less likely to revolt. You didn’t know that fluoride had this effect? Just look up the ingredients of most of the major anti-depressants and you’ll usually find some form of fluoride as their main ingredient! And it has been long known that some circuses add fluoride to certain wild animals’ diets to make them less likely to fight back.

With the increased presence of big government in our lives, from surveillance to red tape to higher and higher taxes, all of which I believe was planned long before fluoride was even introduced, the fact that 66 percent of our population is fluoridated gives Washington much less concern about the people possibly revolting. At least this scenario answers the question of exactly why this program was put in place, since it has had virtually zero effect on the dental health of our country. I don’t think Washington could have cared less about whether ALCOA earned enormous profits from the sale of fluoride. But I can envision Washington getting increasingly concerned about possible revolts in our country and doing whatever it can to forestall them, regardless of the potential harm to its citizens.

I’ll close with one more salient quote: “I am appalled at the prospect of using water as a vehicle for drugs. Fluoride is a corrosive poison that will produce serious effect on a long-range basis. Any attempt to use water this way is deplorable”: Charles Gordon Heyd, M.D., past president, American Medical Association.
