Neocons come out of the woodwork as Republicans gain majority

Now that the congressional game of musical chairs is over and Republicans have most of the chairs, it’s time for the Bush-era neocons to come out of the woodwork.

For instance, former Secretary of State and CFR darling Condi Rice.

Rice told Fox, the closest thing neocons have to their own news network, that Americans “don’t like the world that they get when the United States is not deeply engaged and deeply involved,” in other words invading small countries and killing people for the sake of banks and transnational corporations.

“What we’re seeing is that when the United States steps back and speaks softly, nobody listens,” she said.

So now is the time to dust off the Bush legacy, not that it is significantly different than the foreign policy legacy attributed to the current teleprompter reader in the White House. “And so I think the American people are ready, I think the world is ready, for stronger American leadership,” Condi said.

If corporate polls can be believed, in April the American people by a margin of 51% to 17% said the United States government should stop trying to “solve world problems,” a euphemism for invading and bombing countries disapproved by the ruling elite, a clique Condi nuzzled up to as an international affairs fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations.

Several months of intensive ISIS propaganda has chipped away that margin. In September, if a CNN poll can be believed, Americans said they “are increasingly concerned that ISIS represents a direct terror threat” and are “fearful that ISIS agents are living in the United States” despite no direct evidence of this.

In mid-October this artificially drummed up fear turned into war hysteria as 41% of Americans polled said the military campaign against ISIS should include “air strikes and combat troops,” compared with the 35% who said the offensive should be limited to airstrikes, according to Time Inc., a key player in the CIA’s Mighty Wurlitzer propaganda effort, Operation Mockingbird.

This sets the stage for Republican domination of Congress. Neocons are deeply embedded there. In the weeks ahead we can expect a full-fledged war in Syria — with boots on the ground — and, of course, the toppling of Bashar al-Assad and his government.

Back in March, professors at Rutgers-Newark and Rutgers-New Brunswick voted to call on the college to disinvite Condi from speaking at its commencement in May. “What we’re doing is awarding an honorary degree and having a commencement speech from someone who is a war criminal,” said Professor H. Bruce Franklin.

Rice backed out of the invite, obviously detesting the bad publicity and focus on her role in foisting murderous illusions, namely that Iraq had a smoking gun that would become a mushroom cloud, illusions that ultimately resulted in the murder of 1.5 million Iraqis.
