Atlas Monitor | 10 Sept 2014
The Dutch investigation into the crash of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 does not mention the word “missile” anywhere in the preliminary report.
It concludes that
The damage observed in the forward section of the aircraft appears to indicate that the aircraft was penetrated by a large number of high-energy objects from outside the aircraft. It is likely that this damage resulted in a loss of structural integrity of the aircraft, leading to an in-flight break up.
This seems to confirm suggestions by independent analysts that the Boeing 777 was not hit by a missile and that evidence of shrapnel and machine gun like holes in the wreckage indicates shelling. This was also noted by monitors from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
This evidence has led some to suggest that MH17 was attacked by the coup regime in Kiev’s security forces and was a staged “false Flag” event designed to be blamed on Russia in order to compel EU member states to impose harsher sanctions on Moscow.
Public statements from the US State Department have tried to pin the blame on Russia by claiming without credible evidence that “our assessment is that this was an SA-11 fired from Russian-backed, separatist-controlled territory“.
Russian involvement would seem counter-intuitive given the likely response from the US-NATO led Western establishment who are looking for any pretext to expand NATO and the EU eastwards and intervene directly in the Ukraine conflict in order to steer it in Western interests.
The claimed evidence the US State Department has cited has been obtained from social media which raises questions and scepticism as to its provenance.
Russia on the other has presented its evidence regarding MH17 and have called on the US to do the same.
The events have unfolded in a similar way to the sarin gas attacks in Syria in which the US attempted to assign blame to the Assad government. These claims subsequently collapsed under critical scrutiny.
Investigations into the Ghouta attack have indicated a false flag attack designed as a pretext for a Western led invasion of Syria in order to bring about a regime change.
Turkish leaders have gone as far as admitting that they have tried to engineer pretexts to wage war with Syria.
Not surprisingly the Dutch preliminary report on the MH17 crash has presented very little that hasn’t already been noted. Its terms of reference did not even seek to determine who was responsible for the attack on the airliner.
As the crisis in the Ukraine continues we should expect similar incidents and await them with sceptical anticipation.
